On July 17th, 2024, the world lost a courageous, handsome, tough- as -steal, adventurous, kind, generous, great man; Vaughn Dwayne Cary to an almost two year tough battle with colon cancer.
He was known for his great smile, unique laugh, and his love for adventure. Hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors along with his gift of fixing "ANYTHING" and helping so many people. He could always be found horn hunting, fishing/camping, arrowhead hunting, Deer hunting, Elk hunting, to small and large engine / mechanics and repair.
Vaughn was born April, 24, 1968, to Dwayne Cary and JoAnn Palmer in Burley, Id. Twin Falls was his home with his wife and best friend (Brandi Cary), his son (Brandon & Stephanie Cary), their four beautiful daughters (Jaycee, Oaklee, Averee and Daisee) his stepchildren Justin & Lacey Aslett, Jaxxen, Axxel, Piper), Jarred Aslett, DeLanee and Everett Deighton whom he adored as his own and is ever so proud of.
In his younger years he enjoyed coaching his kids, and attending all their sporting events, teaching them all how to successfully hunt, fish, drive, and many more lessons that they all hold dear in their hearts. Snowmobiling, dirt bike riding, racing cars and anything that involved fuel and would go fast were interests of Vaughns.
Vaughn grew up in multiple places in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Oregon. Before age 11, while burning ants with fuel, Vaughn suffered a serious burn injury to his right leg and had his last rites given to him twice during the ordeal but he prevailed.
From a young age he learned to overcome pain and adversity, which set the tone for the rest of his life.
Legend has it, he was able to get his red Ford home with electrical tape and a bottle cap after being stranded in the mountains
The Matlock family took care of Vaughn but also grew his work ethic. His Aunt Darlene “Dar” Matlock treated him as her own, Vaughn had enormous love and respect for her his entire life. Through his cancer battle he would dream of her and it would help him not fear, knowing she would be there for him when the time came for him to pass on.
Vaughn’s relationship with his cousin Dennis Matlock continued through all his life and the two were practically brothers. They would hunt, fish, take long motorcycle rides, and camp consistently. Vaughn adored his cousin Dennis and his wife Lisa along with their children whom he is proud to call his family.
Vaughn has had many "sidekicks" in his life adventures to name a few: Dennis Matlock, Brian Erke, Terry McKnight, Dwayne Cary, Jayne Bennett, Raymond Ruiz, Pat Streeby, Scott Brandenbourg, Keith Reitz, Waylon Klundt, Darren Nickerson, Curtis Quaintance, and his sons of course Brandon, Justin, Jarred and Everett.
In 1989, Vaughn and Rexann LarRocco welcomed Brandon Dwayne Cary; his pride and joy, his buddy, his boy. Vaughn and Brandon had an amazing relationship that would be easy to envy.
They shared the right balance of friendship and fatherly guidance for Brandon that made him the man he is today.
In 1993, Vaughn married Jayne Bennett where her family welcomed him with opened arms, especially her father Ronald C Bennett all the way up until his passing in 2012.
With this union he was also blessed to love and help raise her boys Justin and Jarred Aslett. From that point on the three boys became bonded and are brothers to this day.
On September 21st, 2019 in Stanley, Idaho Vaughn married the love of his life Brandi. A love they yearned for and both deserved in this crazy thing we call life.
They shared a love where they could move mountains together and were inseparable.
He would always joke and say the ring on her finger was his new pick up but would laugh and say but she is worth it. Their love and coming together was fate and destined to be. They both knew they had found what they were looking for in a partner.
Brandi cared for Vaughn throughout his entire fight with cancer and did it with optimism and unconditional love. She did not waiver and was always there to pick him back up!
Vaughn will miss his dog Hunter but was greeted by his pups Bogey and Max.
Vaughn loved his family and friends fiercely with all his heart.
He will be missed by so many people near and far as he has touched so many lives through friendships, family, friends of family and the many customers and coworkers (Con-way, XPO) that became friends.
A celebration of life will be held at The Gas Lamp Event Center, 269 3rd Ave S. Twin Falls Idaho at 5:30 PM on August 8th.
