Shirley Jean Meyer, 94, of Jerome, Idaho passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Creekside Residential Care Center, into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior. Shirley was born on March 8, 1930, in their family home in Lucas, South Dakota. She was the sixth of eleven children born to George Joseph and Margaret (Faust) Slagel. Eventually, the family settled in Jerome where Shirley attended Pleasant Plains school six miles north of Jerome.
Shirley met and soon married LeRoy L. Meyer in 1956 in Gooding County. They then moved all over the Pacific Northwest with their three children, Jerry, Valinda, and Carla following his concrete jobs on various dams. In the summer of 1973, they moved back to Jerome and settled there with their beautiful family.
Shirley loved being out in the country, horses, telling stories, and did we mention her love of horses. Whether riding them or caring for them, she absolutely loved horses!
Shirley and her sister ultimately found their home church at the Jerome Free Will Baptist with their favorite pastor Gene Kissinger. They had never met a funnier pastor, nor did they miss a single sermon until their little legs could go no more.
Survivors include: her daughters, Valinda Garman (James) of Jerome and Carla Strunk (Donald) of Jerome; her brother, Larry Slagel of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Jerry A. Meyer, her parents, and her siblings: Faye Roggow, Irene Lee, Dale Slagel, Merlin Slagel, Raymond Slagel, Verl (Dean) Slagel, Franklin Slagel, Betty Broadway and Beverly Ellis.
Shirley and LeRoy will be interred together at the Jerome Cemetery.
