Sherrie Lou Whaley was born in Boise, Idaho on December 11, 1944, to John Paul Whaley and Mary Louise Dorsay. She was born the youngest of four siblings and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Sherrie passed away, due to a broken heart on February 19, 2024, within two weeks after the death of her eldest son.
At a very young age, Sherrie married and began her family. Spending the first six years as wife and mother overseas in the Philippines, she would later refer to these years as the best of her life!
Upon returning to the United States, Sherrie continued to expand her family, eventually giving birth to 14 children, 8 daughters and 6 sons. She was a loving and generous mother, known for nurturing her children's individuality without trying to control or shape them. Sherrie took immense pride in her family, which has since blossomed to include 42 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and growing exponentially…
While Sherrie held various jobs over the years, her most cherished and fulfilling role was raising her children and tending to her family. As a mother she not only nurtured her children, she was an example for them of strength, perseverance and character. She ventured into unconventional paths, including driving trucks and working alongside her sister in Idaho's potato fields, challenging stereotypes in what was traditionally considered a man's world.
Sherrie found solace and joy in nature, particularly in fishing trips by the riverside and exploring the mountains. From her riding lawn mower to her 4WD Jeep, Sherrie loved being behind the wheel of anything and could handle herself well while embarking on off-road adventures.
Sherrie was known for her unwavering work ethic, diligence, quiet wisdom and heart of gold. Though she rarely offered unsolicited opinions, her insights were always valued when sought.
Sherrie will be remembered for her sweet smile that lit up those sparkling green eyes, her strength, her resilience, and the profound impact she had on her family and those around her. We can all hear her humming, hear her bracelets clinking together and watch her feet shuffle as she dances to her old records she loved to play.
We all love and miss you so much Momma Lou!
