Doris Marie (Winegar) Neff was born in Buhl, Idaho on Nov. 22, 1928, to Steve and Emma (Meinecke) Winegar of Buhl.
Doris passed away on May 25, 2021, at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Hospital in Twin Falls. She had lived in Jerome with her daughter and son-in-law, Lorna and Gary White, for the last four years of her life.
Doris grew up in the Castleford, Buhl, and Hagerman areas with her eight brothers and sisters. She graduated from Hagerman High School. Doris attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, earning an Associates Degree and Teacher’s Certificate. She began teaching school in Wayan, Idaho in 1950. Doris taught school in the Wayan and Soda Springs area for 40 years. She continued her education while teaching and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree on June 5, 1971, from Utah State University. She especially loved teaching second grade and loved each and every one of her students. She cherished the friendships she made with them, which lasted over the years. She reached out to those in need of a ride or breakfast, making sure they did not go without.
Doris was an active member in the Community of Christ Church as an Elder. She was especially excellent at reaching out to the youth with her education ministry.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking them to summer church camps and reunions.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Loren Neff, her parents, and eight brothers and sisters, one grandson Jessy Muir and her daughter-in-law Susan Neff.
She is survived by her daughter Lorna (Gary) White of Jerome, Idaho, son Don Neff of Grace, Idaho, and daughter Alicia Muir (Brian) of Wayan, Idaho. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 4 great, great-grandchildren.
Memorial Graveside Services will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021, at 11:00 AM at the Hagerman Cemetery.
